The audio creation process involves multiple stages fro editing a source of an audio. Firstly you will need an idea or a product. Foe example music, films, games, audio books. After you have recorded your primary source which is you making the sounds yourself or secondary source which is you getting someone else to make the sound you then file and listen back to it, you can now edit this sound which you either recorded or found. Reasons for editing is to compress or summarise a recording to fit a specific space and most of the time you would edit the sound files to eliminate flawed, repetitive, uninteresting, irrelevant material. (aesthetic material) , to enable recorded speech to remain legal and or to change to chronological order of the interview. Lastly to create impact by adding sound effects between pieces of speech for example bane form the batman movies, darth Vader from the star wars movies. Editing also needs to be ethical as it makes it listener friendly, it mixes it to include the truth and not blasphemy or lies, to not make the audio misleading. And often opinions become facts and then this causes a lie .
example 1 - Most media artefacts such as TV and radio programmes are produced to fit into defined time slots in broadcast schedules. These timings must take reference from the need to include a range of other content between programmes, including trails, commercials, announcements and time signals. A news story will be edited to fit a specific time slot in a bulletin that could last anything from 3-27 minutes. The weather forecast even, must always be no more that 54 seconds in the given slot
6 o'clock news example
Britains newest team train - in this news report we see an over view of the steam train at the start of the clip. we then see the going action on from within the new steam train . 30 seconds in we see the reporters interviewing the people inside the steam train as well as the regional director (Paul Barnfield) after this we see the train continuing along the tracks . the whole news clip lasts 01:46
example 2 -ethical editing is factual content, even if the need to reduce the running time of a clip is pressing, whereas in a fictional product, there is more flexibility with time, even if the overall running time is fixed, the need to ensure that a short scene is tightly timed is not as critical as with factual material. For example, the running time of a sound bite for a story in a news bulletin, taken from a politicians’ response to a question.
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. It reinforces all other human rights, allowing society to develop and progress. The ability to express our opinion and speak freely is essential to bring about change in society. Free speech is important for many other reasons . the way you say certain things or words could benefit the listeners as it could manipulate them due to the way the word was said.
the speaker talks about a certain subject and the sound could be edited by making his voice sound louder which makes him better to hear him. Sound could once the speaker says what he needs to talk about we hear a sound which is about the subject and it fades out as the speaker starts talking.
I think it was edited this way because some sound edits could be made to provide entertainment for people
I think that this type of editing implies seriousness as the edits aren’t childish and are only used in a professional point of view including the time its edited at and why.
Audio editing is the process of manipulating audio to alter length, speed, and volume or to create additional versions such as loops. Audio editing is almost always done using a computer and audio editing software but used to be done with analogue tape and razor blades by splicing and taping in a pre-digital world.. this provides a good effect as it could be used it certain scenes, for example in dramatic scenes the sound could be edited by adding in dramatic music or tense music which enhances the tension within the scene.

DAW- A DAW is a digital audio worksheet which is a programme which works on desktops and laptops. An example of this is 'logic pro x' logic can be used from beginners through to professionals .DAW is a piece of software rather than hardware. DAW is a digital product/only edits sound digitally /has a user friendly interface and it mimics a mixing desk.
MIXING DESK - a mixing desk takes up a whole room/the room must be sound insulated and it must have air con. A mixing desk is very expensive (20,000 pounds +) can be both digital and analog and is only used by professionals. Mixing desks are often found in commercial recording studios. Mixing desks mimics and edits sounds.
whats more effective recording studio or a DAW?
i think that sound artists should start off with a DAW this is because a DAW is much more cheaper than a recording studio as you are able t use it on your laptop. whereas for a recording studio you would need a mixing desk which costs 20,000 pounds+ . finally i think that as a starter a sound artist should use a DAW and when he becomes used to it and committed to using it he could then get a recording studio. personally i think that the daw is better because it is cheaper and it is a go to if someone wants to become a artist or a dj.
The components of a mixing desk are:
- Master computer
- separate slides and channels which = mixer
- Headphones and speakers
- Sound proof recording room
- Microphone
- Air con meter
- Sub and compressor
CUT - we cut audio files to remove waste or any unwanted silence. Using the cut tool determines the -length of the audio.
JOIN - joins two separate files by cross fading. You get and immediate jump between levels and tones/blends the sounds together
CUT AND PASTE - shortcut to cut and paste:
Paste = ctrl + p
Copy = ctrl + c
With copy and paste you are able to hear the same sound more than once. If you copy and paste you can listen to before and after editing. With copy and paste, you might copy a mistake and it would fill up your channels.
STEREO FIELD - a stereo field is the projected area of sound. We use this to naturalize the sound, to make it more realistic.
AUDIO - audio is sound, especially when recorded, transmitted or reproduced.
MONO - mono is a type of recording. Mono recording is the most commonly used type of recording. Although it may seem like stereo recording may always be the better option to record in, since there are two channels of left and right sound inputs instead of only the one which mono uses, for many applications, recording in stereo is completely unnecessary.
SOUNDBITE - a sound bite is a recording which lasts less than 1 minute, soundbites are a short extract from a recorded interview or speech, chosen for its succinctness or concision.
FADER - a fader is a device or control for varying the volume of sound, the intensity of light, or the gain on a video or audio signal.
AUTOMATION - automation is the use or introduction of automatic equipment in a manufacturing or other process or facility/ has control over the levels which means that there are no analog automations.
COLOUR CODING CLIPS - colour coding clips are used to help you section out a piece of work Labelling your clips with colours can streamline your workflow and help you identify metadata at a glance. Learn how to maximise them in this Premiere Pro tutorial.
CLIPPING - In linguistics, clipping is the word formation process which consists in the reduction of a word to one of its parts. Clipping is also known as "truncation" or "shortening". (Taking a recording of a certain amount of a longer video and saving it). When you put a marker on a sound file.
EQ - the levels of frequency response of an audio signal, or controls which allow their adjustment. /digitally edits sounds/boosts middle frequencies (increases range, makes them louder). This is known as a plug in on logic.
INSERTIONS OF SPACE BETWEEN DIALOGUES
We do this because when it comes to cutting the dialogue we know where to cut as there are sections of the dialogue which have no sound and sections of the dialogue which have sound. This makes it easier as it shows us where it is meant to be cut.
Procedure 1: review recorded material before using it
Listening to it directly after recording it, before using you should see if the recorder was good quality and if it’s worth recording. The benefit of this would be that it could save a lot of time in editing later and it could give you a better quality product.
If the steps are not followed you may not meet the deadline, you would be unable to remove ambient sounds, and it would have a negative impact on the quality of the overall DC. And to fix it you would need to record again and or relocate? Re -schedule.
Procedure 2 naming tracks and clips
Involves taking them off a recording device and saving it on the computer. Computers are safer places than microphones. Microphones are not designed to store things. If the steps were not followed then time is wasted things become lost and it will have negative impacts on the overall product.
factual editing process example - as a journalist you're intentions are to try and find out the truth about something new (pre recording) during the pre edit check you would listen back and see if the sound levels where right, if there were enough questions asked and if you understood what they said. during the editing phase you need to edit to time constraints and edit to your journalists intentions. and during the post edit stage you need to see if the freedom of speech was kept and if you have twisted words intentionally or not. an example of a factual product would be a piece of information that is true, for example a documentary would be a factual product (planet earth)
fictional editing process example - in the pre recording you would have to use your creative intentions which could be coming from the director/producer or you.in the pre edit stage you would have to check if the sound levels are right or if you should retake it with another recording device. and you should follow the creative process whilst doing so. in the edit phase you use a creative process/intentions and see if this is what the client expected or if this is what they want. in the post edit stage the freedom of speech must be kept and you must see if you are prosecuting an individual or a group of people. an example of this would be a book that is not based on a true tory or a lie that you were told or a false belief.
